Agates & Jaspers of the Southwest Presentation

Suzanne Morrison of Raining Rocks, a well-known expert in meteorites and a dear friend of mine, recently invited me to be a speaker at a new annual educational event that she created this year to share information about the geologic sciences and to create a scholarship for kids wanting to study these subjects in school. The event is being held February 4th – 6th & 14th – 15th, 2019, at Pima Community College here in Tucson, AZ and includes a wide range of speakers on many topics over a five day period, with two speakers presenting each evening.

The event has been a smashing success and Suzanne will be producing another series with new and exciting speakers on a wide range of subjects again next year. I felt so honored to be asked to participate in this wonderful event and I was pleased to share my presentation on my experience with collecting the agates and jaspers of the Southwest on Feb. 5th. Although I was very sick with the awful crud that has been going around, I put on my big grrrl panties and gave my presentation to the best of my ability. Thank you to Suzanne and her superlative crew for giving me this fabulous opportunity and doing such a great job for everyone in the rock, gem, and mineral community!

As soon as the video is available I will post it here.

Agategrrrl Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to my very first blog post!

As many of you know, I am an avid agate collector, overall rockhound, and author of three best-selling books on the world of rock, gem, and mineral collecting. I have just recently overhauled my website to make it more up-to-date and user friendly for all my friends and visitors. I have kept my personal agates gallery open for fun and education, and streamlined my store with original new products and simplified shopping categories.

My intention with this blog is to inform, educate, and share my enthusiasm for beautiful agates and minerals with other collectors and rockhounds. I hope to create something fun and useful for everyone – from seasoned old-timers to brand new collectors and pebble pups. I will be posting as often as I can and I will be available to answer questions as time permits. I plan to cover many topics over time and may periodically include excerpts from my books on specific subjects. I want to show examples of many types of collectible rocks, gems, and minerals and encourage others to share their own personal rocks too – they don’t have to be the most spectacular or expensive rocks, just whatever you personally like to collect for yourself and would like to share with the world. It’s all about the fun and joy of collecting rocks, whatever you reason for collecting them might be.

I hope you enjoy you enjoy the blog and new website – and, as always, ROCK ON!
